The Buik of the Croniclis of Scotland. Middle Scots verse translation by William Stewart (fl. 1499–1541) of the Scotorum Historia of Hector Boece (first published 1527). The verse text has prose chapter headings throughout, e.g. f. 1 ‘Heir endis the prologe and begynne the historie’; f. 5 ‘How the men of ybernia send to spanʒe for symon brak to be þair king’; ‘How symon brak come an yrland and brocht with the chair of marbell’; f. 267 ‘Off the deceis of the erle of mar and of the worthie actis of the said erle’; f. 269v ‘How the traitouris that slew the king maid ane evill ending’. With the colophon on f. 270: ‘Heir endis the buik of the croniclis of scotland writtin they ʒeir of god jmvc [James V] f[..] [.]eiris be me …’. Ends imperfectly. Ed. W. B. Turnbull, The Buik of the Croniclis of Scotland or A Metrical Version of the History of Hector Boece, by William Stewart, 3 vols RS 6 (London, 1858); vol. 1 contains a fascimile of f. 270 as a frontispiece.
