Salutem in Christo.
Sir.
I thanke you and the Chapter for the care you have had of late for the poore singing men, and the augmentation you have made to their wages. But yet there are two things which I thought fitt to recommend unto you during the continuance of this your Audit, if my Letters can gett time enough thither: The one is that in regard the men are poore, you would assigne the payment of this new increase to be paid quarterly, which I conceive may be donne without any inconvenience to the Church and with great benefit to them. The other is, that you will hold a power in your selves to mulct any man of them with losse of part or all of this addition (if need be.) that shall shew himselfe supinely negligent of Gods service, which will keep them the more in aw by feare of loosing their reward. But that which is thus mulcted upon the negligent, I would have divided among them that are diligent, for their greater incouragement. Thus not doubting of your care in this busines, I leave you to the grace of God and rest
Your very loving freind,
