Summary
The following table presents two major trends in classical Islamic economic thought. The left column indicates scholars who incorporated various conceptualizations from an ethical standpoint and the tradition of taṣawwuf. The scholars in the right column wrote more specifically, yet certainly not exclusively, on technical-legal aspects of economics. Scholars from both groups often overlap in defining and delineating righteous economic engagement as an ethical category.
