Part I - On state scepticism
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 12 November 2009
Summary
To be a friend of the state has been made to seem an index either of stupidity or of corrupt purpose. To be a dependant or client of the state has been made to seem odious and degrading. By contrast, the state's enemies have vindicated their enmity as a direct expression of their own practical insight and purity of intention.
