The time following the war saw a succession of almost all the allied kings and princes at the Elysée Palace, each sovereign reading a carefully prepared speech and Poincaré answering all of them by heart. There were also more intimate dinners, notably the one given in honor of Queen Elena of Italy and her daughters, after which I took the liberty of dedicating to Her Majesty a “Little Suite for Piano and Violin [or Flute]” that I had just composed and that Pascal played for us. I dedicated it to her under the title of Suite florentine. It was published by Hamelle.
