Athenian commander with the fleet at Artemision and subsequently responsible for the battle off Salamis. After that he proposed at the conference of commanders that they break the bridges at the Hellespont and, when that failed to persuade, that the enemy be allowed to go (cf. also Podlecki, Them. 122).
