We continue studying convection as a possible factor of episodic accretion in protoplanetary disks. Within the model of a viscous disk, the accretion history is analyzed at different rates and regions of matter inflow from the envelope onto the disk. It is shown that the burst-like regime occurs in a wide range of parameters. The long-term evolution of the disk is modeled, including the decreasing-with-time matter inflow from the envelope. It is demonstrated that the disk becomes convectively unstable and maintains burst-like accretion onto the star for several million years. The general conclusion of the study is that convection can serve as one of the mechanisms of episodic accretion in protostellar disks, but this conclusion needs to be verified using more consistent hydrodynamic models.

The present study focuses on the transition between steady convective patterns in fluid-saturated porous media. We conduct experiments to identify the transition point from the single- to double-cell pattern in a two-dimensional porous medium. We then perform a basin stability analysis to assess the relative stability of different convective modes. The resulting basin stability diagram not only provides the domains of coexistence of different modes, but it also shows that the likelihood of finding convective patterns depends strongly on the Rayleigh number. The experimentally observed transition point from single- to double-cell mode agrees well with the stochastically preferred mode inferred from the basin stability diagram.

Propagation of polymerization fronts with liquid monomer and liquid polymer is consideredand the influence of vibrations on critical conditions of convective instability isstudied. The model includes the heat equation, the equation for the concentration and theNavier-Stokes equations considered under the Boussinesq approximation. Linear stabilityanalysis of the problem is fulfilled, and the convective instability boundary is founddepending on the amplitude and on the frequency of vibrations

We show that suitable initial disturbances to steady or long-period pulsatile flows in a straight tube with an axisymmetric 75%-occlusion stenosis can produce very large transient energy growths. The global optimal disturbances to an initially axisymmetric state found by linear analyses are three-dimensional wave packets that produce localized sinuous convective instability in extended shear layers. In pulsatile flow, initial conditions that trigger the largest disturbances are either initiated at, or advect to, the separating shear layer at the stenosis in phase with peak systolic flow.
