This chapter investigates whether there is a presumption of atheism, that is, whether atheism can be the default position even independently of any atheistic arguments.

In this book, Rik Peels explores atheism from a new perspective that aims to go beyond the highly polarized debate about arguments for and against God's existence. This chapter examines various foundationalist theories of justification. We consider the regress argument for foundationalism, classical and modest foundationalism, and Phenomenal Conservatism.
