On 23 May 2005, a bigeye thresher shark (350 cm total length (TL)), Alopias superciliosus was captured in Gökova Bay (south-eastern Aegean Sea). This is the first record of the species from Turkish waters. A second specimen (approximately 450 cm TL), was captured off the Silivri coast, northern Sea of Marmara, on 25 February 2007. This is the first record of the species from Marmaric waters and the second record from Turkish seas. The examined head of the Marmaric specimen is described.
