In 1968, Steinberg [Endomorphisms of Linear Algebraic Groups, Memoirs of the American Mathematical Society, 80 (American Mathematical Society, Providence, RI, 1968)] proved a theorem stating that the exterior powers of an irreducible reflection representation of a Euclidean reflection group are again irreducible and pairwise nonisomorphic. We extend this result to a more general context where the inner product invariant under the group action may not necessarily exist.

We prove that for a discrete determinantal process the BK inequality occurs for increasing events generated by simple points. We also give some elementary but nonetheless appealing relationships between a discrete determinantal process and the well-known CS decomposition.

Let $F$ be an infinite field of positive characteristic $p > 2$ and let $G$ be a group. In this paper, we study the graded identities satisfied by an associative algebra equipped with an elementary $G$-grading. Let $E$ be the infinite-dimensional Grassmann algebra. For every $a$, $b\in \mathbb {N}$, we provide a basis for the graded polynomial identities, up to graded monomial identities, for the verbally prime algebras $M_{a,b}(E)$, as well as their tensor products, with their elementary gradings. Moreover, we give an alternative proof of the fact that the tensor product $M_{a,b}(E)\otimes M_{r,s}(E)$ and $M_{ar+bs,as+br}(E)$ are $F$-algebras which are not PI equivalent. Actually, we prove that the $T_{G}$-ideal of the former algebra is contained in the $T$-ideal of the latter. Furthermore, the inclusion is proper. Recall that it is well known that these algebras satisfy the same multilinear identities and hence in characteristic 0 they are PI equivalent.

We explore the constraints imposed by Poincaré duality on the resonance varieties of a graded algebra. For a three-dimensional Poincaré duality algebra A, we obtain a fairly precise geometric description of the resonance varieties ${\cal R}^i_k(A)$.

The Poincaré map of mixed exterior algebra generalizes the Hodge star operator and it plays a central rôle in the proofs of many classical identities of linear algebra. The principal purpose of this paper is to derive a new formula for it. This formula is useful in circumstances when the definition is too implicit. Several applications are discussed.

G. B. Gurevič enumerated all the orbits of GL8(ℂ) in Λ3(ℂ8). There are precisely 23 orbits (including the trivial orbit). For each of these orbits, we determine its closure (for the ordinary topology).

Let U be an n -dimensional vector space over a finite field of q elements. The number of elements of Λ2U of each irreducible length is found using the isomorphism of Λ2U with Hn, the space of n x n skew-symmetric matrices, and results due to Carlitz and MacWilliams on the number of skew-symmetric matrices of any given rank.
