Objective:
To quantify the extent of food and beverage advertising on bus shelters in a deprived area of the UK, to identify the healthfulness of advertised products, and any differences by level of deprivation. The study also sought to assess the creative strategies used and extent of appeal to young people.
Design:Images of bus shelter advertisements were collected via in person photography (in 2019) and Google Street View (photos recorded in 2018). Food and beverage advertisements were grouped into one of seventeen food categories and classified as healthy/less healthy using the UK Nutrient Profile Model. The deprivation level of the advertisement location was identified using the UK Index of Multiple Deprivation.
Setting:Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland in South Teesside.
Participants:N/A
Results:Eight hundred and thirty-two advertisements were identified, almost half (48·9 %) of which were for foods or beverages. Of food and non-alcoholic beverage adverts, 35·1 % were less healthy. Most food advertisements (98·9 %) used at least one of the persuasive creative strategies. Food advertisements were found to be of appeal to children under 18 years of age (71·9 %). No differences in healthiness of advertised foods were found by level of deprivation.
Conclusions:Food advertising is extensive on bus shelters in parts of the UK, and a substantial proportion of this advertising is classified as less healthy and would not be permitted to be advertised around television programming for children. Bus shelter advertising should be considered part of the UK policy deliberations around restricting less healthy food marketing exposure.

Summary
Executive Summary
To achieve higher renewable energy (RE) shares than the low levels typically found in present energy supply systems will require additional integration efforts starting now and continuing over the longer term. These include improved understanding of the RE resource characteristics and availability, investments in enabling infrastructure and research, development and demonstrations (RD&D), modifications to institutional and governance frameworks, innovative thinking, attention to social aspects, markets and planning, and capacity building in anticipation of RE growth.
In many countries, sufficient RE resources are available for system integration to meet a major share of energy demands, either by direct input to end-use sectors or indirectly through present and future energy supply systems and energy carriers, whether for large or small communities in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) or non-OECD countries. At the same time, the characteristics of many RE resources that distinguish them from fossil fuels and nuclear systems include their natural unpredictability and variability over time scales ranging from seconds to years. These can constrain the ease of integration and result in additional system costs, particularly when reaching higher RE shares of electricity, heat or gaseous and liquid fuels.
Existing energy infrastructure, markets and other institutional arrangements may need adapting, but there are few, if any, technical limits to the planned system integration of RE technologies across the very broad range of present energy supply systems worldwide, though other barriers (e.g., economic barriers) may exist. Improved overall system efficiency and higher RE shares can be achieved by the increased integration of a portfolio of RE resources and technologies.

We have developed a gait nomogram based on dynamic similarity to characterize and compare neuromuscular function. We used temporal–distance data based on 669 normal participants (age range 5 to 98 years), and 78 children and young adults with spastic diplegia (43 males, 35 females; mean age 10y 8mo, standard deviation 3y 11mo, range 5 to 20y), all of whom were independent ambulators. A new statistical algorithm known as fuzzy clustering was implemented and five cluster centres were identified, each representing distinct walking strategies adopted by children with cerebral palsy. Using just three easily obtained parameters – leg length in metres, stride length in metres, and cadence in steps per minute – our program calculates a child's dimensionless step length and step frequency, generates the individual's membership values for each of the five clusters, and plots the gait nomogram. The clinical utility of our approach has been demonstrated for two test participants with spastic diplegia, using pre- and postoperative data (one neurosurgical and one orthopaedic), where changes in membership of the five clusters provide objective measures of improvement in their neuromuscular function.
