Call for Editor Proposals

After joining the Psychological Medicine editorial board in 1995 and being tasked with leading a new editorial office as the American Editor in 2001, Dr. Kenneth S. Kendler is completing his tenure as Co Editor-in-Chief in May 2025. Cambridge is now inviting applications for a new Co Editor-in-Chief for a five-year appointment beginning in May of 2025. 

The deadline for applications is January 31, 2025

Psychological Medicine is a leading international journal in the fields of psychiatry, clinical psychology and the related basic sciences. The journal includes original articles reporting key research being undertaken worldwide, together with literature reviews and shorter editorials by distinguished scholars. 

Interested applicants should send a curriculum vita and cover letter along with an abbreviated development plan (not to exceed two pages) and the names and email addresses of three references, to Jessica Basile at Cambridge University Press (details below). Applications will be reviewed by committee, and final appointment decisions will be made by the Syndicate of Cambridge University Press. 

The successful candidate will join Co-EiC, Professor Sir Robin Murray, to lead the journal’s editorial team. Responsibilities will include:

  • Shaping the strategic direction of the journal, in cooperation with Cambridge and the Co-EiC.
  • Overseeing the Journal’s US based editorial office (using the Editorial Manager online submission system), including a team of Associate Editors
  • Making final article acceptance decisions
  • Establishing and maintaining an active and diverse Editorial Board


In your application, please indicate your:

  • Experience of publishing in the field
  • Editorial experience, ideally with an academic journal
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work as part of a team
  • Strong and international professional and academic links
  • Organizational, communication and technical skills
  • Institutional support, financial or otherwise, to support your work on the journal
  • Proposed plan for development, including areas such as:
    • Engagement of journal reviewers and editorial board members
    • Recommendations for content development, including new directions for the journal/areas of focus for future special issues
