* Reproduced from the text provided by the I.L.M. Corresponding Editor for Australia. The Act was assented to on December 16, 1985, and came into force on April 1, 1986, except for Section 18 (2). Section 18(2) concerns a foreign state's immunity from “sistership” arrest in admiralty. Under present Australian law, sistership arrest is not available, but it is likely to be introduced if the recommendations of the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) in its Report No. 32, Civil Admiralty Jurisdiction (1986), are adopted. Until that time, Section 18(2) is inoperative and was, accordingly, not proclaimed to enter into force.
