IRAS and Distant Galaxies

Recent millimeter-wave observations of CO from the protogalaxy candidate IRAS F10214+4724 with single dishes and interferometers indicated that the huge amount of molecular gas is associated with the high-z galaxy with huge infrared luminosity. An overview of the results of recent observations of IRAS F10214 +4724 is shown. The implications of the results based on aperture synthesis CO observations and origin of the huge infrared luminosity (starburst or dust- enshrouded QSO) are discussed by comparing them with the “nearby” ultraluminous IRAS Galaxies.
