Summary
The world’s oceans, which cover approximately 70 per cent of the Earth’s total surface area, are for the purposes of this book considered to be a single interconnected realm, divided into 10 regions. Most ocean life lives near the surface and in particular along the continental and insular shelves. The latter offer a wide range of habitats including tidal pools, coral reefs, and kelp forests.
