Forte magis quam consilio cum accidisset, ut in eadem fabula quae mutanda vel restituenda invenisse nobis videremur inter nos communicaremus et alter quid de alterius inventis iudicaret rescriberet et re ipsa monente id saepius saepiusque fieri coepisset? nihil mirum quod alter haud semel partem tantum veri perspexerat quam alter postea supplevit, ita ut utrius beneficio praecipuo novata deberentur interdum vix sciri posset. Tali autem societate, unde et nos capiebamus summam dulcedinem et propositum ipsum haud mediocrem – but videbatur certe – fructum, quae coniunctis viribus effecta essent rursus disiungi cum iudicaremus nefas esse, Asinariae quam instituere coeperamus recensionem utriusque nomine inscribi voluimus: cuius societatis quoniam ne nunc quidem nos paenitet, futuro quoque tempore, quotienscumque res ita feret, operam et curam coniungere constituimus.

Codicis veteris (B), cuius foliis 21r–30r continetur fabula, praesto fuerunt quaecumque Ritschelius enotaverat: idem ut codex denuo ab Hinckio excuteretur ipse curaverat: qua in re ne summam quidem diligentiam supervacaneam esse ratus tertium illum contulit Gustavus Loewe. Praeter ea autem quae in ipsa adnotatione testati sumus pauca quaedam praefationi reservavimus, eaque nunc placet absolvere.
Ac primum quidem qualis in B sit discriptio ita indicabimus, ut versuum principia a nostro exemplo discrepantia afferamus. Sciendum est autem reliquos quorum quidem in hac re ratio habenda est codices omnes (DEJ) plane cum B consentire nisi ubi differentiae aliquid testabimur.
