Summary
Folios 63r–68v contain deeds relating to Friday Street. The red-ink heading at the top of f. 63r reads (in translation) “Friday Street – the Pheasant – acquired/bought”, and each following verso has the red-ink heading “Fryday” and each recto “strete”.
The testament of John Hakebourne [24 October 1295]
At the Husting Court held on the Monday [before] the Feast of the Apostles Simon and Jude in the twenty-third year of the reign of King Edward son of King Henry, the testament of John de Hakebourne was enrolled, in which is contained this: I leave to Isabelle my wife one messuage, one seld, and one shop with appurtenances in the parish of St Matthew Friday Street for the whole of her lifetime, to have and to hold. And after the death of the same Isabelle, I wish that all the aforesaid tenements with their appurtenances shall be sold by my executors, and that the money received from them shall be paid for my debts and the debts of my brother John de Hakebourne. And if it should happen that my executors die before the death of my aforesaid wife Isabelle, then the executors of my executors, one or all of them, with the help and advice of the rector of the church of St Matthew, whoever it may be at the time, shall do as my executors would have done had they been alive. The names of the executors: Robert de Soutthon and Henry de Asshestede.
Grant by William & Isabelle atte Wolde to Robert de Gloucestre [10 May 1310 and enrolled 27 July 1310] May those present and future know that we, William atte Wolde, armourer and citizen of London, and Isabelle his wife have, for a certain sum of money paid into our hands, granted, given and by this our present deed have confirmed for the whole of the lifetime of myself, Isabelle, to Robert de Gloucestre, goldsmith of London, and his heirs and their assigns, a seld where ???
