Councils and Convocations 1272-1640
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 20 December 2023
Summary
The following lists give (by province) all the councils and convocations known to have taken place between 1272 and 1640, indicating where they were held and for how long. Convocations which were summoned, but which probably (or certainly) did not meet, are indicated in square brackets. An asterisk (*) denotes those councils which were called in response to a royal writ. A cross (+) indicates those convocations at which a subsidy was voted. Normally this went to the king, but when it went to the pope or the archbishop (often for subsequent transfer to the king) that is indicated by a footnote.
