This was the second time that ICPhS has been held in Prague, the first being the 6th Congress in 1967. The 20th Congress was chaired by Radek Skarnitzl who was assisted by the Scientific Program Committee (Tomáš Boril, Katka Chládková, Jonáš Podlipský, and Jan Volín) and a team of local volunteer assistants.

The programme consisted of 5 plenary talks, 1 featured talk at the occasion of the 30th Praat anniversary, 266 oral presentations and 603 poster presentations. The programme also included nine special sessions. Contributions came from 55 countries. 420 reviewers took part in the double-blind review of the congress papers, and the selection of papers for the programme was facilitated by the chairs of the 29 scientific areas, as well as the scientific programme committee. In total, 1127 delegates attended the Congress.
The Association warmly thanks the organizers for all their work, and all who attended, together making the Congress a great success. The Permanent Council for the Organization of ICPhS received one proposal for the organization of the 21st ICPhS submitted by a Canadian consortium led by the University of Victoria together with the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, the University of Calgary, the University of Lethbridge, the University of Alberta, and the University of Saskatchewan. The members of the Permanent Council supported this proposal and the 21st ICPhS will therefore be held in Victoria, British Columbia, in August 2027.
