The archives of the National Museum of Kenya in Nairobi have recently been sorted and listed. They are now, available to students of East African history and form a useful addition to the source material on the subject. As well as the Museum's own archives, they include collections of papers and photographs given to the Museum by private individuals. The material dates from about 1900 to the present day.

The Museum was begun in a single room by the East Africa and Uganda National History Society in 1910, and moved to its own building in 1920. In 1929 it was moved into the first buildings on the present site and renamed the Coryndon Memorial Museum. In December 1964 it became the National Museum of Kenya.
